Market day

Wednesday has been market day in our village since the 12th century. We have just a few stalls - this clothes stall, fish and charcuterie stalls (which were in the shade today so didn't photograph well), and in winter a vegetable stall which deserts us for the more profitable tourist resorts in the summer. It's a meeting place as well as for shopping and today friends we talked to were united in their opposition to the tree-felling which is still taking place just up the road.

The big plane tree in this picture will not be cut down ... this time. I think the mayor would find it impossible to fell this one as it is surrounded by benches where the old men spend the morning watching the world go by and waiting for their dinner!
