Virginia Street Downtown
This afternoon I went downtown hunting for a Blip motive. Came home with many that were "good enough" , none perfect. This was the best of those. Here I like the light that created an idyllic atmosphere inspite of being in the middle of Reno's sinful mile. Casinos, Pawn- and liquor shops, etc. This is one of the few places in Reno, except inside of the malls, where you actually see some pedestrians sometimes.
I had been attracted by the huge wall for freestyle climbing, right next to the sign that greets visitors here. It spans Virginia street and often is the end of special events , like Hot August Nights ends right here.
It was ice cold in the shade but a little further on in the park next to the Truckee River some homeless people had spread out their belongings and were enjoying a coffee in the sun. One guy had a coffee machine that intrigued me. How is he running it?
The geese are Canadian geese and we have 100000 of them here. Poop in all parks and green surfaces…
Virginia Street is many miles long, goes from North to South straight through the town and has the most important businesses. It once connected Virginia City , which was bigger and richer than Reno in the times of the Gold Rush to Reno which had a railway station. The silver was transported with mules down the mountains to Reno , from where the trains brought it to San Francisco.
