Good Memories
Iris Marie is moving away after about 26 years of activism here in Philadelphia, in this old house.
Stories were tossed out, each of us recalling an old memory involving Iris. To get the telling started she brought out a canceled check from the basement. During the 1st Gulf War, Iris paid her federal income tax with a coffin lid, which was brought into the IRS office with the help of a slew of activists. I vaguely remember being there, but it was before I knew the lady much.
The check was accepted, processed, and given back to her (at the tax office, not by mail) like any other canceled check. Then Iris brought the check home and it stayed in the basement for 22 years. That's longer than her sweet old dog Obie's been around.
Farewell, Iris. Live long and give 'em Hell!
