Found a fab article tonight about pH/KH/GH and CO2 in freshwater aquariums. Wish I'd found this ten years ago.

The bathroom is almost ALMOST finished. The rain over the past two months has halted me getting the circular saw out in the yard to do any of the (many). cutty bits, but I'm hoping one more day next weekend should do it. Then I'm never doing DIY on this scale in our bathroom here again.
