Olecko in the Fog

I was volunteered to drive R and M to the other side of Olecko to take some paintings back after an exhibition a while ago. I was more than happy to breathe some different air and with the fog it was possible to sense the ghosts of the Teutonic knights driving along the strategic roads of East Prussia. The old border was in Filipow along the Rospuda I think.

It must be 15 years since I drove that way last. We dropped the paintings off somewhere between Olecko and Gizycko in a small village. This is a Prussian farmyard on a rather damp and misty day.

After a bowl of rather good soup and cup of coffee, we went to Czukty and called in on W. Some people enjoyed fortifying beverages bought in the local shop, which we revisited on the way back. W's house was full of interesting things including a small cactus which he found 5 years ago and has grown little, but seems to be in good shape considering. Conversation was irreverent and entertaining.
