In Full Flight
Due to our lunchtime backyard visitor I am uploading today’s blip on an all time early!
Usually it is only minutes to midnight!
We have been encouraging our feathered friend to daily visits via small fresh sausage morsals.
The common prey of our laughing kookaburra, native bird of the kingfisher family include mice and similar-sized small mammals, large insects, lizards, small birds and nestlings, and most famously, snakes. Small prey are preferred, but kookaburras sometimes take large creatures, including venomous snakes much longer than their bodies.
Today after retrieving his treat from the ground, strategically positioned I caught this magnificent bird in flight as he returned to his perch on the fence to swallow his snack.
What a fluke to catch him with full wingspan!
I might get to bed early tonight.
