RICHARD II
A damp Sunday afternoon in late November and the Glasgow Film Theatre cinema 1 is packed to the doors. This is one of two 'encore screenings' in the city today of David Tennant's Richard II, first streamed live to cinemas on 13th November and repeating today.
When something has been hyped, you watch with your heart in your mouth. I wanted to see the nascent Hamlet, the spoiled brat king/the spiritual learner/the tragic king, the foreshadowed vanity of Lear ............wanted all that and got it! And more! Tennant's Hamlet was for me the strongest of the ten or so I had seen, next to David Warner's in 1966. Richard was also sublime.
