Sunset Point, Hokitika

Woke up to the smell of baking in our hostel - so had to buy a delicious choco-strawberry muffin as we checked out. We had planned to go and see the Pancake Rocks, but the west coast rainforest was more than living up to its name and there was just no way we wanted to get out of the car - torrential rain, thunder and lightning....

Arrived in Hokitika before midday and checked into our hotel/hostel, Stumpers, before heading back out to visit the West Coast Treetop Walk. Fantastic experience being 20 metres above the ground, literally in amongst the treetops.

Got some washing done at the hotel then went to Dulcie's by the Quay for delicious fish and chips, which we ate in the car at Sunset Point (obeying the Lonely Planet guide to the letter! Well, it was a good tip!) Had a walk on the beach afterwards, collecting bits of greenstone and making our way through all the driftwood. I particularly liked this twisty gnarled tree trunk that had washed up at some point.
