Cumbrae and the Isle of Arran

This morning I was down in Largs and the light was just starting to change. This is a view from Haylie Brae above Largs, looking over to the Isle of Cumbrae and to the beautiful mountain range in the north of Arran.

Arran is often called "Scotland in Miniature" and this is certainly reflected in the landscape. The north of the island is dominated by rugged granite peaks, formed by a vast volcano active around 60 million years ago. The mountain range is sometimes called the Sleeping Warrior due to its distinctive profile seen from the mainland.
