What Brings Us Back Together

Dark approaching, the gulls ended their constant squabbles and lined up in quiet contemplation. The insight came. All living creatures of similar shape or mind eventually succumb to this inner urge to seek each other's company and face the unknown together. At least while it lasts...

So, what brings us back together?

Is it the fear of the long cold nights,
And the relish of your warmth...
Is it the expanse of lands and seas,
We've flown together...
Is it the sweeter taste of life,
With the promise of your presence.
Or the power in my wings,
Trebled by a look from you...
Is it the wake of each new day,
And the dream to meet Eternity together...
We may never know what's etched beyond,
But do we care, do we care...
