The Royal Military Canal

This canal built as a defence against Napolian is the only one in Britain that was entirely government funded. It runs for 28 miles and was dug by hand 200 years ago. It was known as Mr. Pitt's Ditch because it was an idea of William Pitt the younger who was then Prime Minister.
