Community fruit and nut trees

I have managed to get a few fruit and nut trees in our reserve. Initially it was DOC land so Would you like to put natives how about a Kowhai.? Almost none of our natives are edible!!! Then it became local body land. Letters, delays, phone calls not returned. Eventually I put an apple and peach tree there myself anyway. One is thriving. the other... oh well. I also poked in a few hazel nuts. Think the rabbits win there, even if they do develop.

This year I again approached the local A.T. community association and was delighted that they agreed to buy a few fruit and nut trees. So now we have a good edible chestnut and one healthy and one not so happy hazel nut trees beside my initial trees. The A.T. community organisation is planning to add a few trees each year. And yes they do have formal permission.

The foreground tree is my apple tree. I will need to give them water if it gets too dry until they get their roots down enough. When I was in the reserve it was sunny and hot with that lovely summer grass / lupin smell, and the birds were singing loudly.
I think you can always tell when birds are happy as they sing so cheerfully and loud.
