Self-Portrait Tuesday: channelling Chet

I decided yesterday that I need a hobby. Because, according to Colin, it's either that or a cat, and I really don't want to be the cat lady. Or a boyfriend, and I don't think I want one of those at the minute either.

I've been toying with the idea of taking up trumpet again for a while, but to be honest, it just seemed like too much effort. And I used to be really good, and being shit at something you used to be really good at is never very appealing. But yesterday I made a promise to myself that I'd try, even just 10 minutes a day, and hopefully find a good jazz tutor and take a few lessons to help get me back up to speed. And hopefully, at some stage next year, I'll find some kind of band to play with. The main problem at the minute is the neighbours! I've ordered a new practice mute, because I have no idea where my old one is, and in the meantime I've been practising under the duvet. Colin wants me to have a tune prepared for him for his visit on Saturday, so I've got work to do :)

I mentioned on blip before about some of my favourite ever trumpeter photos, of Chet Baker by Bob Willoughby. This is my rip-off interpretation of this shot. Chet looks determined and deep in thought, I just look a bit bored. But close enough!
