Such a relief that it wasn't so cold today. I couldn't stay warm at all. D and me saw a little cavalier spaniel yesterday who had fallen through the ice on a frozen pond. It was swimming around while it's distraught owners tried to encourage it until the fire brigade arrived. There was nothing we could do and they didn't want any company so we walked on All the wAy round we could here the woman's increasingly beseeching cries to her dog. Then she stopped. It was awful. The fire brigade passed us but it was too late. The little thing was overcome by the cold and drowned. Can't imagine how dreadful the owners must be feeling. Today all the ice was gone.
