Santa Emilia

Blip Break over!

Want to move out of only /constantly/ talking about coffee-related subjects – isn’t diversity the spice of life!

First weekend in the lovely mountain city of Matagalpa, a.k.a. the coffee capital of Nicaragua - where you can find more coffee shops than bars (ok , maybe not... ), but where you can definitely go a take a visit to the local Coffee museum, as well as the house of the Carlos Fonseca the revolutionary intellectual godfather of the Sandinista Front, or if you prefer a stroll along the streets with loads of great photo opportunities. For me this city equates freedom – as finally I am able to stroll risk-free in the streets (opposite to the tough reality of Managua)…

In Summary: a spontaneous breakfast with a stranger at the local coffee shop , a sharing of our life experiences, followed by an impromptu trip on the chicken bus; direction: La Dalia, stop at approx.. 16 km from Matagalpa to get off at the Cascada Blanca Eco-Lodge.

Today’s blip was taken at the El Salto de Santa Emilia – a very romantic, thoughtful waterfall bed where you forget the concept of time, and plunge into the mesmerizing pool of sounds, while practicing all sort of activities, my preference goes to reading of course but I will return for a dip! It is an ideal weekend break from any hectic timetable, where you can relax and eat some delicious Italian pasta, (prepared by a real Italian!) with whom I had the pleasure of dining, who showered us with romantically infused compliments only seasoned Italians can serve. The cherry on top, was the great company of a stereotypical revolutionary Nica maiden – who inspires me by her stories and her dedication to the feminist cause. It was all in a “perfect day” – and sometimes I forget I am here actually working…

Thank you to all the protagonists for this amazing day.
