New Morning

Cloud bums kissed by distant light
The sun returns from hidden night
And with it comes a thing called 'day'
In which we work and fight and play

The planet's tilt will keep us cold
As we succumb to winter's hold
As we descend into the dark
In which we scratch and scream and bark

In which we stare with murderous eye
At those whose failure to comply
Makes the dark feel even darker
The winter's prospects even starker

We expect the earth will move
And hope tells us that things improve
A Summer for us all to share
I know not when, I know not where
