The Sad Story of the Katoomba Lamp Post.

Once upon a time, a couple of months ago, a lovely old style street lamp was erected on a pedestal in the centre of the town's main roundabout. It looked most impressive, although one person wrote to the local paper complaining about the cost (allegedly $75,000). Unfortunately it was only there about a week when along came a strong wind storm and it blew over. Ever since sympathetic people have been putting various replacement lights on the pedestal - lamps, candles, a hurricane lantern. Even some torches, but they have disappeared. Maybe they blew away too.
