The final day! Santiago de Compostela

O Pedrouzo to Santiago de Compostela, 20.1km

We woke up early. This was to be our last day on the Camino Frances.

Unlike the last few days the weather is fine and settled.

Sarah and i felt very emotional today. We walked slowly and spent time reminiscing about the previous 40 days - the highs, the lows, the pilgrims we'd met along the way both regularly and those that we'd only walked with briefly but had made an impression on us, the kindness and generosity of the local people, the good weather, the bad weather, the price of wine across the regions (ranging from 50c to €1.80 a glass), if we were to do it again what we would and wouldn't include in our rucksacks...

We arrived at the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela, 41 days after leaving St. Jean Pied de Port, 790kms. We have kept our vow to walk every step of the way, carrying our own rucksacks. and we made it! Today's Blip is me outside the cathedral - an impressive structure even with the scaffolding!

We made our way to the Pilgrim's Office to receive our Compostela. I asked and was able to dedicate mine to my son Ben - i lost him 10 years ago and part of my reason for doing this walk was to both honour his memory and raise some funds for the children's hospice that helped care for him. We all cried.

The rest of the day was spent celebrating our amazing achievement with our "Camino Family".
