Locations Empirical II

We are delighted to have the exhibition Locations Empirical II by Liz Knox at the Mackintosh Church. Liz is one of Scotland’s most collectable contemporary artists.

After specialising in Drawing and Painting, Liz Knox graduated from Edinburgh College of Art in 1971. She spent years bringing up her sons and lecturing in fine art, with little time to paint.

In 2003, she decided to leave lecturing to paint full time and on the same day, was awarded The Aspect Prize. She now exhibits throughout Britain, with regular solo exhibitions in London.

An elected artist member of The Glasgow Art Club, Paisley Art Institute, Visual Arts Scotland and The Glasgow Society of Women Artists, Knox is at present, Vice President of Paisley Art Institute and a council member of The Glasgow Art Club.

Talking about her paintings Liz Knox says: 'There is a personal reaction to the subject. The still life and outdoor works are my response to the subject on a particular occasion. Other work is more difficult to explain. It's to do with thoughts, random thoughts, daydreams, reminiscences, the scattered disconnected ephemera that skips back and forth in the mind. Sometimes there's a span of years between one end of the connection and the other. While, like the still life/landscape work, there is objectivity, I think the subjective aspect of all the work is primary. Visual imagery attracts me but the sensation from the source is the reason for the painting. Basically, I paint'.

Locations Empirical II is on until the 19 December. This oil on canvas 54x72 inches is called 'Estuary'.
