Dear Photo Diary

By rutherfordium

Farewell friend...

... you died doing what you loved.

Today I had a lovely baby shoot with a family I've photographed before. I walked in, sat down, turned the camera on, and... nothing. I hit the shutter button, it clicked, but there was nothing on either of the displays except a faint banding on the LCD. Now it's not even giving me that. Dead. An ex-camera.

One of the big talking points among Canon shooters this year has been "have you not got a 5D3 yet?", and I've always answered "I'm waiting for one of these to die first". Well, it was only a matter of time, and that day has come. One 5D3 has been ordered. Expensive afternoon!

I'll get a quote for the repair on this one and see if it's worth getting it fixed, so there might be a much loved but slightly battle-scarred 5D2 on the market soon :)
