A bit logged off!

Contractors have finished thinning one of our woods at the nature reeserve. The timber they are harvesting is neatly piled - this photo is of the uncategorised logs, after the 12+" beech suitable for planking, the spruce and larch suitable for fence posts, etc. I guess these small diameter logs will go for pulp. What is left behind is a bit of a mess. All the side branches and brash has just been left littering the ground and in some places it was blocking footpaths. So, I spent this afternoon clearing the worst areas to open up paths. Whilst doing so, it poured with rain (which I'm sure was not forecast) and I got very wet. There were compensations - I flushed two Woodcocks and had great views of Roe Deer as well as the usual Muntjacs.
