28 years!
I can hardly believe this myself, but it's been 28 years since I last had a hotdog!
When I was 19 years old, I left my parents lovely home out in the sticks and moved to the city of Bristol. I have to say, the 4 years I lived there were, on the whole, fantastic. I lived upstairs from the veterinary hospital that I was working in, with the other vet nurses and there was never a dull moment. Bristol is such a lovely city and as a country bumpkin, I felt safe there. No end of entertainment either and I've lost count of how many bands I've seen. Wish I'd kept all my ticket stubbs now ...
Anyway, cooking for one is no fun, so myself and another nurse, Mel, took it in turns to cook for each other, depending on our shifts.
After a while, and after watching a programme on battery hens, Mel came into the living room one day and announced she'd like to be vegetarian. I was totally up for it, it felt right and I thought we would consider our diet more that way. We'd taken to rustling up quick meals, tinned hotdogs being one of our favourites!
I haven't had a hotdog since!
Today we went for a wander around Bath and the Christmas market set up there. Basically we go so's Sav can have a bockwurst sausage hotdog and I usually have mulled wine and a crepe.
This year we arrived early, before the madding crowd gathered, and I was able to read the menu board - they have veggie hotdogs!!!! So, hotdogs all round, washed down with a cup of mulled wine.
Yum yum piggy's bum!!!
Oh, excuse me, this Jewish vegetarian must dash off and wash her mouth out ... with another glass of mulled wine!!
