Bar berry

I have an image of this bush taken jut a few weeks ago and the leaves on it were the colors of the sunrise. Pinks, orange, shades of red that went almost to lavender...Beautiful. Over the winter the berries add color to the garden and give a few of the birds something to cautiously nibble on. Our neighborhood has many cats and they patrol the other yards looking for in-between meal snacks. Zoe pays attention but little moves her off her ample hindquarters. She has become more fit since moving in with us last winter, but diet only goes so far without exercise. We also discovered that in the summer one of the neighbors leaves his door open and she would take second-breakfast despite the protests of his cat. The cooler weather should limit her opportunities for snacking unless she is willing to work a little harder.
