St Cuthbert (c.630-687)

The most famous of the Anglo- Saxon saints. After 25 years as a monk he moved to Inner Farne Island, off the North East coast of England, and lived a life of seclusion. He was buried on Lindisfarne-Holy Island. This wood carving shows the monks removing his coffin to its final resting place in Durham. The spot that eventually became Durham Cathederal.
