Australasian bittern

These birds are now becoming very rare in NZ possibly under 1000 left. Much to my surprise I walked onto this bird which immediately took flight. Their natural habitat is wetlands and here in NZ we have only 1% of our original wetlands so their habitat is under threat. What a beautiful bird to see if only it's rear end!
