The helicopter crash

Last night there was a tragic accident in Glasgow. A helicopter with two police officers and a civilian pilot crashed into a bar, The Clutha, at the edge of the City Centre. BBC. The Latest is that eight have been confirmed dead in total (five people who were inside the bar were killed when the roof collapsed. It seems as if the helicopter suddenly lost power.

Several of the main roads are still closed off and police and fire crews were still working on the building today. There was a big gathering of press near the bar (as close as you were allowed to get to the scene) and many bystanders.

I have always had an interest in how everyone responds to accidents (with my sociological hat on) and I suppose the images I took today were about that. There's City-wide shock and a more immediate need to keep everyone loved closer. It's also something of a social experience (i.e. an experience all of Glasgow shares).

I think it's something that also leaves an imprint on the place itself; we'll always remember what happened here each time we pass and think of those who died in this random event.
