Change comes slowly

In Oregon, lesbian and gay couples still cannot legally marry. So these two women married across the river in Washington a few months ago, but they staged their wedding celebration at the Unitarian Church with their family and friends on the day after Thanksgiving. And so it was possible for these two lovely sisters in their gray party dresses to serve as flower girls and to watch their grandmother (with the microphone) celebrate her marriage to the woman with whom she has shared her life for the past fourteen years. It was a joyous and beautiful occasion, and all of us who attended were warmed by the love: of the couple for each other, of their families for them, and of the church and community of friends who regard marriage as a human right that should be available to everyone.
