White Flippered Penguin
We took a walk with NZ Forest and Bird Society today, from Taylor's Mistake along the peninsula to where the endangered White Flippered Penguins nest. These are unique to Canterbury. In fact, they are Canterbury's only unique bird species. The have been cared for by Dr Chris Challies for the last 30 years. He receives no funding for this. There are approximately 75 breeding pairs.
