INGLENOOK

I went over to see my mum today at Edgcott. On the way I took this picture of an old thatched cottage in Grendon Underwood as I know that she lived in it as a small child. When she lived there it was called Inglenook but in more recent years it has been renamed.

She was born at her granny's at Cuddington and moved to Inglenook with her parents soon afterwards. Her mother described it like living in a barn in those days as it was 1 up & 1 down.

They moved to Edgcott when mum was 3 to another thatched cottage which no longer exists, & following a fire which gutted the house & left them homeless they moved into one of the Pond Cottages in Edgcott before being given a Council House in around 1940.

Seventy odd years later she still lives within spitting distance of that council house, so she hasn't moved very far at all. My Dad was a farmer's son who lived in the village & the rest is history

Dark dull & grey today, but surprisingly mild.

Carol has a stinking cold & Peter is settled but in a lot of post operative pain which will go when everything settles down.
