By Himself

Skibbereen

We visited Skibbereen to purchase dull things like hinges and waste bins. We returned with hinges but without waste bins, which were either grey, or the same colour as the seat in this image.

Now, dear Blippers - I am announcing a RANT ALERT!

I visited the institution in this picture which calls itself an art centre. Inside was an exhibition which had...
Room 1 - a series of small photographs of the same trees in the same forest and a drawing of snow.
Room 2 - one poorly exposed black and white photograph in the centre of each wall, depicting a tree, a broken shed and something I can't remember.
Room 3 - three video screens leaning in the corners showing water flowing, branches moving and flames in a grate.

Bemused, I read the curator's exhibition notes hoping for enlightenment...
"This dark, yet thought-provoking exhibition invites the viewer to contemplate our relationship with the natural world.... beautifully made and understated pieces contain a common feeling of silence, of having missed the 'happening' and being caught in the moment after. "

What a load of pretentious, stuck up, meaningless, art-speak! What a waste of space and time! AND to cap it all a horrible, brutal carbuncle of a new gallery is now towering over the heart of Skibbereen, completely out of keeping with the scale of this attractive small town.

I have Googled the artist and she does create some rather interesting work - so I think we must have the curator to blame for all this - they should be ashamed, in my opinion.

Sorry for the rant - needed to get it off my chest!
