Southern Cross over the Tekapo Church
We had another perfect evening for night photography and were able to make a nighttime image of the Church of the Good Shepherd at Tekapo, something that GingerNan and I had both wanted to do. As well as the Milky Way, stretching from left to right above the church, you'll be able to see the Southern Cross just to the right of the bell tower, together with the pointers further to the right. Plus, there's even some red Aurora glow, low on the horizon! There are some black areas, nebula, and many many other stars. Go Large to see more!
There were many people milling around the church, but I managed to keep away from most of the action by going to the back of the church, facing towards the south and with Lake Tekapo behind me.
I really love night photography and have appreciated the further insight I've gained from Fraser Gunn. Many thanks K. for your company on this trip :) It was great coming back to Christchurch today, via the Hakataramea Pass, a rather unconventional route!
Many thanks for all your wonderful comments, stars and hearts for yesterday's Aurora Australis at Lake Alexandrina - you helped it up into the Spotlight!
