Tie Rack, Central Station, Glasgow.
The international Tie Rack chain, that epitomised the 80s entrepreneurial spirit, gradually reduced to just over 40 UK stores as ties fell out of fashion with the more casually dressed Twitter generation. Last month it began its closing down sale.
This unit in Central Station has been a colourful feature and no doubt the young women assembling outside the shop would have been the target customers at one time, kitting out the boyfriends with smart ties in their Christmas stockings. Tie Rack will also have suffered through the global recession and online shopping. And so the commercial climate is ever-changing.
