The Real Teal
Most people know of the word teal as a colour. It's a deep blue-green, a dark cyan. The first written use of teal as a colour was in 1917. In computers the colour teal represents software that is well-written and efficient with no glitches. It's the colour of sexual violence against women awareness and also of ovarian cancer awareness. According to colour forecasters AkzoNobel (Dulux), teal is colour of the year for 2014.
I went to RSPB Rye Meads this afternoon and joined. I had never been in a hide or togged a bird in flight until this year. My first shot as a fully paid up member was this lovely little dabbling duck, a male Teal. The light was really bad but its beautiful plumage can still be seen. Love it that those squiggles on its breast and flanks are called vermiculations.
