Lytro Focus test

One of the discussions on the Lytro yesterday was how does it work when it just pointed at something and the shutter button is pressed (ie no pre focus).

So here you go. If you click on the version on the Lytro Web site (here). Then you can click about on different characters and change the focus point.

The more I read up about the technology the more impressed I am that they did it and the more disappointed I am with the results. However this is a first generation product, I think part of the issue with the results is that the software is still under development.
The camera firmware and the software have been updated and there is more on the way, I hope it happens before I have to give it back next week. It should be possible to have everything in focus and the 3d might actually work.

In case you were wondering, the picture I have blipped is the best quality jpg that this will output, the raw data is 16mb though...
