Cooking for Xmas
“He'd noticed that sex bore some resemblance to cookery: it fascinated people, they sometimes bought books full of complicated recipes and interesting pictures, and sometimes when they were really hungry they created vast banquets in their imagination - but at the end of the day they'd settle quite happily for egg and chips. If it was well done and maybe had a slice of tomato.”
― Terry Pratchett, The Fifth Elephant
Fairly relaxing day, catching up in the house and starting on the things I can prepare for the freezer. Just managed cranberry sauce, bread sauce and the mashed turnip and carrots - and have left the almond and breadcrumbed potato croquettes until tomorrow.
Watched Masterchef tonight but recently a lot of the dishes look a bit like slugs in damp greenery - not very appetising, at least not to me! Monica and Michel have obviously been told to smile a lot more and the contestants seem a nice lot, but some of the chefs in the restaurants and the critics are a joyless bunch. Give me Raymond Blanc any day. I've never seen him stroppy, he's happy in the kitchen and his love, enjoyment and care for food are palpable - and he's not bad looking!
