A seal of approval ..
As today promised to be the last sunny day for quite a while, I naughtily decided to head off to Donna Nook before the seals go and also try to spot the shore larks a little further along the coast.
It was lovely and sunny, and I spent a happy couple of hours taking photos. Tonight there's a very high tide due and stormy weather - the last time that happened when the seal pups were there, many were swept out to sea.
There is a fence stopping the visitors from getting to the seals - unfortunately it also stops the seals making their way up the dunes in extreme conditions. On the news they said if the tide got very high the volunteers would open the gates to let the seals access the sand dunes. There are about three tiny gates in a fence at least a quarter of a mile long.
Here's hoping things don't get as bad as anticipated and this gorgeous little chap survives the night safely.
Then I moved down the coast to look for the shore larks. I love the fact you can arrive at a location and just gravitate towards a group of people who are also bird watching and just become part of a friendly group. Spookily when I got home someone in a Facebook bird group asked if it was me he'd been chatting to on the beach as he recognised a photo I'd posted on the page - and it was!
I saw several shore larks, a large group of snow buntings and a huge flock of twite - but all photos are too dreadful for blipping!
Mum went to bed as usual at 7 - and has already got up twice ..
