Deserted
This photo tells its own story, Eve and Mrs Smith walking along a deserted corridor. Ordinarily this walkway at Waverley Station is rammed full of people at all hours of the day. Not today though. All trains from Edinburgh were cancelled. Including the one that was supposed to take Eve on her first trip to London with Mrs S as her tour guide.
We hung around for a while but Network Rail thought the weather was going to remain unsafe for some time and so in the end we had to accept defeat.
They were supposed to get the local train into Waverley but that was cancelled last night when it became apparent the wind was going to pick up, so I ran them in and parked up next to the station. Of course, after all the waiting around I was eight minutes late getting back to the car and had a parking ticket. That's on top of the cost of the hotel tonight that the hotel refused to cancel for us - although it won't stop them from booking someone else in that room and doubling their money.
On the upside, we took a tearful Eve to The Dome for hot chocolate and fudge cake which cheered her up and managed to book a train down tomorrow. Fingers crossed.
