Disaster Recovery
A winter storm wreaked havoc across Scotland today. The Forth Bridge, Tay Bridge, Clacks Bridge were all closed, then a lorry was blown onto its side on the Friarton Bridge near Perth, closing that one and causing a tailback that had my kids stuck on their school bus for almost 4 hours and an ambulance needing called for one of the other pupils on the bus that took a turn and had difficultly breathing.
Trains were all cancelled, trees were falling blocking roads, rivers were rising, it snowed (yey!!) and at home my BBQ got blown over and we lost all power to the village at 08.30, just as I had to start working from home. Argh!
So, my disaster recovery plan related to loss of power kicked in - went and bought a generator, set it all up (including properly earthing it), ran an extension lead back into the house and powered my laptops & ADSL router and got on with my work. Blazingly fast internet with no one else in the village connected ;)
It's the 10th time we've lost power this year by my reckoning.
