The calm before the storm
Well, that was another one of those days! Sometimes it's just a sense of humour and questioning whether you are actually on the right planet that gets you through. I was in the shower at 5 as usual with my radio blaring. Paul McCartney's latest single was played to a lot of rude comments from the other early morning listeners who basically said it wasn't very good. I didn't think it was that awful but it's Queenie Eye if you are curious.
Sorry about the picture which looks very similar to others I have done in recent weeks but this time the sky was the strangest shade of pink rather than the orange I have shown before. I was logging in when I spotted it and ran upstairs with my camera to hang out of my window and scare the neighbours at 6am. I assure you I was dressed and respectable. I didn't see anyone anyway.
As the morning wore on, the wind grew in ferocity and I was relieved I didn't have to go anywhere. They'd been forced to close the Brum German Christmas Market due to the high winds causing safety concerns. Actually, spicy German sausages combined with Gluhwein can cause a lot of wind in some cases. Excuse my flippancy there. There were reports on the radio telling me 140,000 homes in Scotland were without power, all the trains in Scotland had been cancelled today along with a mightily stormy message from north of the border which told me that things were pretty bad up there.
I rang mom a bit later to ask her how things were in Ayr. As expected, it was horribly windy and she wasn't risking going out. She wasn't very happy anyway as her 13 year old fridge freezer had broken down and everything had defrosted. She was a bit upset, saying she wished dad was there to sort it out. She wanted me to order one from somewhere on the net and get them to deliver it tomorrow and take the old one away at the same time. 'Your dad would have sorted it out easily.' she told me.
I just remembered that line from Braveheart -
'William Wallace: Yes, I've heard. Kills men by the hundreds. And if HE were here, he'd consume the English with fireballs from his eyes, and bolts of lightning from his arse.'
I didn't say that of course. Sometimes the silliest things can be quite heartbreaking.
Other news, I found a dratted mealworm on the carpet with my bare foot this morning. Urrrrgggghhhh! I presume it got stuck to my slipper and was carried upstairs. Horrors!
