Hydrofoil 'Curl Curl'

A few years back we inherited a large selection of 35mm slides of some longstanding family friend's world travels.

Following my son's last visit home from London earlier this year, he took the slides with him, and has had them all professionally scanned, and they make a lovely digital record. Regretfully, we are unaware of the stories behind individual slides, and we are unable to recognize where all were taken.

The one above however did strike a chord, as on both our trips to Australia in recent years, we spent time with my brother-in-law and family whose home is in N Curl Curl, Sydney, and we made regular trips on the current fleet of ferries.

A Google search filled in some further details for me on this vessel:
Launched in 1972, it entered service on the harbour in 1973, had a gross weight of 129 tons, had a passenger capacity of 120 and a speed of 32 knots.

The hydrofoils were always expensive to run and prone to breakdown. During their time on the harbour, the hydrofoils were subject to long periods of out of service due to breakdowns and strike action.
