End of the line

The canal once ran from Lancaster all the way up to Kendal, where it terminated at Canal Head. As you leave Kendal, the first few miles of the canal have been filled in and I used to love running along the route, now grassed over, going under the stone bridges now standing superfluous in the fields.

After a while you the canal proper starts and proceeds east away from the town until it gets to Crooklands where it is abruptly interrupted by the M6.

From time to time there's talk of reopening the canal all the way from Kendal to Lancaster - figures of fifteen million pounds are bandied about - but it's hard to see the point, really. Still, it would have been nice if they'd built a bridge over the canal as they did with the road next to it.
