'Tis the Season

Today we attended the French Christmas Market in Unley Soldiers' Memorial Garden. I blipped this garden back on 11/11/2012. The market was very nice and it was a perfect day, but no time to stand in long lines waiting for food.

On my way through the Unley shopping centre I captured this Salvation Army leader of a small brass band playing Xmas carols. I loved his white hair and Christmas look, and managed to catch his eyes as he looked up.

Oom-pah-Pa

Next it was on to the Friends of Belair National Park monthly meeting where the guest speaker shared with us some wonderful history on significant trees in our state. Good info for possible future blips.

Tonight we are attending the Xmas dinner for the friends of the Onkaparinga Woollen Mill Museum Inc. The committee look after the mill collection which is housed in Building 26 at the Old Woollen Mill complex in Lobethal. Open to the public on Sundays.

The museum includes a priceless Dobcross Loom, and a display on how it worked, and explains the role the Mill played in WWII and why the iconic Onkaparinga Mill closed down. Definitely great material for a future blip.

Today, December 7th is an important day. It is International Civil Aviation Day. It is the day in 1941 when Japanese planes bombed the US Naval Base at Pearl Harbour in Hawaii.
It is also the day that William Bligh, captain of HMS Bounty at the time of the famous mutiny, died in London in 1789.
