Double headed....a rare opportunity
Still feeling under the weather today. I was going to go to London with a friend, but we decided to cancel as I was feeling so grotty yesterday.
I think Mr U&L was pleased by this, and begged asked me if I could take him to the Ouse Valley viaduct at Balcombe to see the double headed live steam tour passing over it...only problem was they were due over it 8 AM!!!
So, after waiting a few minutes in the cold miserable dawn (thinking it would never get light) I noticed some steam in the surrounding trees and before you could blink an eye this somewhat rare opportunity has passed over the viaduct and disappeared with a small wiff of steam into the murk at the far end.
During that brief time I took 20 shots, of which this is probably the best. The train is double headed and pulled by 2 Stanier Black 5's numbers 44871 and 45407 'Lancashire Fusilier' owned by Ian Rieley. The rail tour started at three bridges at 07.55 and went all the way to Bristol, and finishes at Three bridges at 21.30.
One day when we are better off I would love to go on one of these rail tours instead of just watching them.....
