Lladró Figurine

Today is a drizzly dull Sunday. Such a contrast to last Sunday when the sun shone on Loch Lomond all day. So today called for an indoor blip and I looked around for an ornament that I hadn't photographed before. I have two beautiful Lladró pieces - one inherited, one gifted. They are sentimental pieces, but none the worse for that.

I placed the 'girl with kittens' on an attractive decorative Mackintosh-design mirror to provide an interesting base picking up nearby reflections. The story behind Lladró sculptures is interesting. In 1953 three Lladró brothers living in a village near Valencia, started making vases and jugs. 3 years later their sculptured figurines began to emerge, and such was their success that in 1962, they opened a Professional Training School to share their knowledge and expertise. It still operates today and is an international business that appears to be riding out the recession.
