So that's what it's for

Waiting at our local station today I saw a row of black brackets like the one at the top of today's blip.

They seemed to have no apparent purpose but I figured they must be quite important because there is a locking mechanism at each side.

As we left I saw the purpose.
They hold the ramps in place for things on wheels to be pushed onto trains.

I will sleep much better knowing this!
