DARK-EYED JUNCO
Today was my lucky day! For quite a while I’ve been trying to get a good shot of a Dark-eyed Junco. They are ground feeders so, with only dirt or mulch as a background, any picture I had was totally dull. They're much prettier in a tree, but since they don’t stay in one place very long I couldn't get a shot – until today! The Dark-eyed Junco is actually a medium sized Sparrow, typically with dark grey head, back & wings and a white belly (although the species has a wide variety of coloring). They have a pink bill and white outer tail feathers that make a quick flash of white when they fly past. I had never heard of a Dark-eyed Junco before Blip, so I was thrilled to identify some in my yard.
