It's a Mystery

I collected this seed head several years ago, and it has been sitting in a glass dessert dish on my kitchen windowsill ever since. I haven't a clue what it is, and the seeds have since dropped to the bottom of the dish, and are probably not viable. However I liked the way the light was catching it, and while waiting for Mum to come down for breakfast, took the opportunity for some quick studies with the macro lens plus all its extension tubes!
