Gloria de Cristo Lutheran Church

A calm, supportive
influence in the Foothills,
it weathers the storms.

~carliewired

This Lutheran Church where I quilt twice each week is a fine example of modern day Mission Revival architecture. (peak of popularity 1890-1940)

This style we see in the American Southwest (California, Arizona, Texas) is inspired by the mission churches built by the Spanish colonists.

This Lutheran Church exhibits many of the characteristic features of this style: smooth stucco siding, arcaded entry porch, quatrefoil windows, large square pillars, roof parapets, archways and red tiled roof. In Yuma, we see this style reflected in many public and commercial buildings today. (banks, shopping malls, hotels)
