Seriously?

5ºC

11am: Absolutely freezing icy rain-almost-sleet in an Istanbul that is around 5ºC with quite a strong wind - so it feels much colder than that outside. I am looking out the window wondering about this evening's journey to Istinye to a jazz concert where the singer is an ex-student of mine. In this kind of weather the traffic in Istanbul virtually comes to a standstill especially as heavy snow is forecast for later on.
ok, back to work....

11pm update: The concert was good. Very good, but when we came outside at the end of the performance it was, as predicted, to find heavy snow fall. And thunder. And lightening. And no taxis. Luckily friend/colleague Deniz was also at the concert and so he took us in his car down to the sea road until we found a taxi (thank you) to bring us back to school campus and home. Heavy snow fall all the way made the journey a bit hairy, especially once back on campus and struggling up the hill.

I am now engaged in the special ritual dance known only to teachers and students involving intricate mysterious circular steps and weird symbolic arm waves whereby we attempt to summon the appropriate Deity who will hopefully declare a snow day tomorrow ! Please.
