This will be my last post on the subject of diets for a while, even though I have plenty more material. I just feel that it is wearing a bit thin.

The social occasion – this is where a lot of dieters get it all wrong. You forget the reasons why you started this thing in the first place, to improve your quality of life. True, there may have been a specific reason, but deep down, it was really about improving your situation.

I know what it is like, I have been there and own the baggy T-shirt. You have made tremendous progress and don’t want to interrupt this, possibly thinking that it won’t come back again. Well, if you cannot enjoy the occasional social occasion, then it is all for nothing. As long as the social occasion doesn’t involve a gallon of beer and a curry once a week, then making room for a bit of enjoyment should be a priority.

Put the diet back in its box and lock it in the cupboard along with the bathroom scales. Treat Xmas and New Year as a regrouping period in preparation for this annual milestone. Prove to yourself AND your family and friends, that you are capable of letting it go and so remain in charge. Your family will feel relieved to see a mince pie in your face and have a good chuckle when you ask for an extra piece of Xmas pud.
